BMW 1200GS - the ultimate go anywhere bike

Post  JamesGoodchild on Fri Apr 06, 2012 11:31 am

At slightly less than 450 lbs or around 200 kg, the 1200 cc classic boxer engine delivers 110 hp in a surprisingly comfortable bike. I had a chance to ride one of these bikes in Germany on the autobahn and secondary roads. The 6 speed transmission easily allows you to keep pace with the other vehicles. 160-180 kph feels planted and relaxed with more power available if you need it. The light weight means it maneuvers readily around obstructions. My only complaint about the bike is the seat height. Even with suspension cranked down and the seat lowered, this still isn't a bike for the inseam challenged. I couldn't flat foot the bike but was able to get enough down so I could stop without falling over.

I'd give the bike a 7.5 out of 10.
